Voice™ Index: Measuring the Loudness of a Personal Brand

Sustainable personal brands are built intentionally. As the industry has matured, consistent growth has become less about posting more and more about following a repeatable system.

Before we begin working with any client, we establish a baseline using the Voice™ Framework and Index, our way for measuring the strength, reach and consistency of a leader’s voice.

What is the Voice™ Framework?

The Voice™ Framework is our methodology for building founder brands through a structured, repeatable process rather than trial and error. It maps personal brand growth across six stages, from defining a clear identity and publishing consistently to building authority, expanding distribution, and, for some, evolving into a media brand. Each stage builds on the last, creating a system that makes growth more intentional and predictable.

The Voice™ Index puts that framework into practice by turning each stage into something measurable, giving founders a clear way to evaluate the strength of their personal brand.

The problem the Voice™ Index solves

Personal brands are usually described in terms you can’t verify. “Strong presence.” “Growing influence.” “A notable voice in the industry.” They sound convincing, yet there’s nothing measurable behind them.

Without a number, there’s no way to track real progress. What’s left is intuition, and intuition is difficult to rely on when time, money, and reputation are on the line.

The Voice™ Index changes that. It turns a vague sense that “things seem to be going well” into a measurable position on a 0-100 scale, showing where you are today, how you’re progressing, and what separates you from the next level.

What the Voice™ Index is, in plain terms

The Voice™ Index measures the loudness of your voice: how many people actually hear you, and how alive their response is.

At its core, it’s built on one simple relationship:

Voice™ Index = Reach × Quality

Reach — the loudness of your voice (how many people hear you).

Quality — how efficiently you use that loudness.

The logic that sets Voice™ apart from “activity scores” is already visible here: capital first, efficiency second. Reach sets the scale. Quality tunes it within narrow bounds. Below we break down both parts concretely — exactly how each is computed.

Part 1. Reach: Loudness (the capital of voice)

Reach answers the question “how many people hear you.” Measuring it is harder than it looks, and most approaches go wrong at the very first step. We made 3 deliberate choices.

We measure the typical post. A single viral post that took off by chance speaks to luck. So we take median reach: how many views your ordinary post gets. This figure can’t be inflated by one lucky hit.

The independent academic study “Attention Inequality on X” (Hidalgo et al., 2026) found: the median post on X gets about 35 views, against a mean of 2,335. A more than 60-fold difference. The cause is extremely uneven distribution of attention: the top 1% of posts takes about 75% of all impressions. The “average” figures people love to cite are inflated by rare viral spikes. We build the scale on the median, on the real picture — so a healthy account with a live audience gets a fair score and doesn’t drown because the algorithm has grown stingier with everyone.

We measure reach instead of followers. Followers are inflatable and long since disconnected from a real audience. Reach shows how many people actually saw your post.

Each platform lives on its own scale. A view on X and a view on LinkedIn differ in value. So each platform is scored on its own scale, calibrated to its reality from large industry datasets. Technically, reach is converted into points on a 0-100 logarithmic scale, where each platform has its own “floor” and “ceiling.”

How the scale works. The logarithm is needed because the spread in reach is enormous, from tens of views to hundreds of thousands. On such a scale, each 10× of reach gives roughly an equal step up. At the same time, we deliberately make the top harder than the bottom. Here’s the real curve for X:

Median ReachLoudness Score
5008
2,50021
12,50040
60,00065
350,000100

Getting from zero to the middle is achievable in a reasonable timeframe. The top scores work as a wall: to climb from 65 to 100, you need to grow your reach nearly sixfold. That’s how reality works, where the summit always belongs to the few.

Multiple platforms strengthen your voice, without double-counting. Final loudness is built around your strongest platform, where you sound loudest. Every additional live platform adds a modest bonus:

Reach = (strongest platform) + 20% × (second strongest)

A second platform expands reach, and that’s rewarded. Full doubling doesn’t happen: audiences partly overlap, and a genuinely strong voice on one platform is worth more than an average one on two. Each further platform adds less again — so the system rewards expanding presence while keeping you from “spreading thin” across ten channels for the sake of a number.

Part 2. Quality: Efficiency (the strength of the signal)

Quality is assembled from 5 signals, each rooted in the Voice™ Framework. Each signal carries its own weight in the formula:

SignalWhat it measuresWeight
PresencePublishing stability — whether you maintain a reliable signal in the feed15%
DistributionHow actively content travels beyond its starting point: collaborations, joint content, paid placements25%
ResonanceHow alive the response is from your audience relative to reach20%
AuthorityWhether the outside world validates your value: publications, podcasts, stages, recognition25%
Signature ShowWhether your show (podcast, series, format) has grown into an independent media entity15%

Resonance is measured relative to reach. We look at the share of responders among those who saw the post, rather than the raw number of likes. This shows whether your audience is alive or nominal. And an honest detail: large accounts naturally have a lower share — the wider the reach, the smaller the percentage that reacts. There’s no penalty for size here: a large account’s loudness is already fully accounted for in Reach, while Resonance separately measures the quality of the connection with the audience.

Authority is the weightiest signal, because it can’t be bought with activity. It arrives when others start referencing you: independent publications, podcasts, stages. We score it by the level of the outlet: a mention in Bloomberg or at TOKEN2049 weighs incomparably more than a niche blog, and the formula reflects that with different coefficients.

The 5 signals combine into a single, deliberately modest multiplier. Quality adjusts loudness by roughly ±15%, amplifying or dampening the final score without redefining it. A quieter voice cannot become a louder one through activity alone. That is intentional. The Voice™ Index measures loudness, while Quality measures how effectively that loudness is realized. Reach remains the primary driver, and Quality determines how fully that reach is converted into influence.

How each signal is scored

Every signal converts to a 0 to 1 score using bands. Cross a threshold, move up a band.

Resonance thresholds vary by platform. The table above shows X.

How it works together

Joining the 2 layers gives the result:

Voice™ Index = Reach × Quality

where Reach is your capital of reach (0-100), and Quality is an efficiency multiplier (roughly 0.85 to 1.10).

First, the system determines your loudness by your reach across all platforms. Then it adjusts it by how well you work with that reach: consistent presence, live resonance, and external authority pull the result up; their absence dampens it. The output is a single number from 0 to 100.

For example, take a founder with a median reach of about 24,500 on X — a Reach score of 50. Here’s their Quality for the month:

SignalTheir activityPointsScoreWeightContribution
Presence10 posts published0.615%0.090
Distribution3 cross-posts + 1 heavy collab3 + 3 = 60.425%0.100
Resonance1.2% engagement rate0.820%0.160
Authority2 Tier B + 1 Tier C placement4 + 1 = 50.425%0.100
Signature Showno show0.015%0.000

Combined quality = 0.090 + 0.100 + 0.160 + 0.100 + 0.000 = 0.45

Turn it into the multiplier:

Multiplier = 0.85 + 0.25 × 0.45 = 0.96

Their work realizes about 96% of their reach:

Voice Index = 50 × 0.96 = 48

And the multiplier rewards better work: lift Distribution and Authority to strong (0.8 each), combined quality rises to about 0.65, the multiplier climbs to 1.01, and the same reach now converts at full strength — a Voice Index of about 51.

Voice™ Index levels

Behind each range is where you stand as a voice.

ScoreLevelWhat it means
0–20Minimal presenceThe voice is barely audible, lost in the noise
20–40Emerging brandPeople are starting to hear you; your name is becoming recognized
40–55Developing brandA steady presence; people are following you
55–70Established brandA noticeable figure; people seek out your content
70–85Strong brandA recognizable voice in your niche; people look to you for perspective
85–100Authority / Media-levelAn industry reference point; people cite your work

The bottom line

Personal branding becomes far more valuable when it’s measurable. The Voice™ Index replaces assumptions with a clear, data-backed view of where your voice stands today and how it can grow.

At INPUT, we use the Voice™ framework and the Voice™ Index together to identify priorities, measure progress, and build personal brands systematically.

If you’re building your voice with intention, start by measuring how loudly it already carries.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is the Voice™ Index?

The Voice™ Index is a measurement system for evaluating the strength of a personal brand. It calculates a score from 0-100 by combining two core factors: Reach, which measures how many people hear your voice, and Quality, which measures how effectively that attention turns into influence.

02

How does measuring personal brand influence with the Voice™ Index help founders grow their business?

The Index helps identify which parts of a founder’s public presence create stronger market recognition. A measurable score makes it easier to understand progress, prioritize improvements, and build a personal brand as a long-term business asset.

03

How does the Voice™ Index measure personal brand influence beyond viral content?

The Voice™ Index uses median reach rather than average reach to measure typical performance. This prevents a single viral post from distorting the score and creates a more accurate view of a founder’s consistent visibility.

04

Why does the Voice™ Index measure personal brand reach instead of follower count?

Follower numbers show audience size, but they do not show how many people actively receive your ideas. The Voice™ Index measures actual content reach because visibility is the foundation of influence.

05

What factors determine a strong personal brand score in the Voice™ Index?

Higher scores require more than regular activity. They reflect a combination of meaningful reach, strong audience response, consistent presence, and recognition from external sources such as media, events, and industry communities.

06

Why is achieving a high Voice™ Index score difficult for growing personal brands?

The scale reflects the reality of attention distribution. Early growth can happen through consistency and better systems, while the highest levels require substantially larger reach and broader recognition.

07

Can founders with smaller audiences achieve a high Voice™ Index score?

The Index evaluates multiple dimensions of a personal brand, including the quality and authority of the audience connection. However, the highest levels require significant reach because influence depends partly on how many people hear the voice.
